Sometimes it is wonderful to use a prop when you’re shooting children to get them to pose and interact better. This shoot was one such case, even if the youngest child didn’t really get the concept of the lightsaber

This was so much fun to shoot and using something different gave us something different from the shoot.

Children photography Fife

Making children photography images in a classical style is where I’m specialising. It just doesn’t date, it doesn’t go out of fashion and it won’t look like those old photos of us when we were kids with the purple wallpaper and orange furniture in the background; or was that just the images of me as a child?

Classical portraits mean that you won’t need to re-frame everything when you change the décor of your living room, you won’t have to have the images remade just because the style of image has gone out of fashion, it’ll be as gorgeous as the day it was made.

With those words in mind, I wish to present a few images of children in a classical and low key style. Mono images with everything low-toned will go on any wall and look absolutely fabulous!

Playgroup Photography at Brambles

I had the great pleasure of shooting the playgroup photography at Brambles Playgroup at the Rosyth Methodist Church.

Wonderful children with some real characters showing through even at their tender ages. One of my favourite images of the year (although my favourite subject is, of course, my own children) is of young Caeden whose Mum has kindly given permission for me to use his images for my business and he’s in the gallery below. When you see the image screaming “You know I’m wonderful!”, you’ll know which I mean. Also posted here is Calvin, whose Mum also gave permission, who was an absolute joy to shoot. Relaxed, calm and posed beautifully for everything asked.

Playgroup photography is very rewarding, if a little frustrating at times, with some children who just don’t want to be photographed suddenly shining in front of the lens. Wonderful stuff!

Unusual model photography Fife

My photographic mentor set me the task of making images totally different to what I have done before. Part of the task was to use just one light, one lens and one modifier to make the images with. I have to note that using a zoom lens was perhaps not quite in the spirit of the task, but instead I chose to limit things on the lighting front by only modifying the light by using the flashguns zoom-head.

To satisfy the “totally different” aspect of the task, I chose to try to make something with an editorial feel and the subject of down and out. I wasn’t trying to glamorise the situation, although I did the shoot with two very good-looking models. The location is on the Fife coastal path and it was a freezing day.

Family photoshoot in Rosyth with the Murphy family

The lovely Murphy family commissioned me to do a photoshoot for family portrait photographs.

The family photoshoot went wonderfully, with everyone having fun and lots of giggles. Being able to share joy with a family in this way is one of the privileges of doing family photography. Getting great results from the photos is a wonderful part of being a photographer too.

The family love the photographs and really enjoyed themselves on the day.

Model photography with a difference

The difference on this shoot was that it was being videoed.

With thanks to Richy McAllister for filming the shoot and putting together a video of it.

I shot Becky in an abandoned (visitor-safe) church on the outskirts of Dalgety Bay. This was a fun shoot to get something different for both Becky and I and also for Richy to be able to shoot the shoot

This was the first time I’ve been filmed working and I have to say that it was an enjoyable experience. Many thanks Richy for your work shooting and editing this and for the day itself acting as a voice activated light stand. Model photography is just as much fun whether you’re being filmed or not.

I had the wonderful invitation to photograph a group of riders at Lindores this week and enjoyed myself immensely.

Guided by wonderfully friendly and knowledgeable Keith, I was in a good position at all times to see where the riders were going and have the very best views.  Thankyou very much for sharing your knowledge and for your company Keith.

Horse photography is wonderful fun, especially for me, as I had so little experience of them growing up and they are definitely magnificent beasts.

It gave me great pleasure to photograph these two handsome boys for their Mum. We had a lot of fun on the shoot and the boys engaged with the camera brilliantly.
